When was Kreiss founded?
Kreiss founded the company in 1939.
When was Kreiss founded?
Kreiss founded the company in 1939.
What is the Kreiss Look, or California Look?
It is a timeless, casually elegant style featuring generously proportioned pieces, neutral colors with unique accents, and a combination of natural materials and textures.
Did Kreiss invent the ball pillow?
The ball pillow has been a signature of the Kreiss line for more than 50 years and most people associate the ball pillow design with Kreiss sofas and sectionals.
What types of wood do you use in your furniture?
Primarily alder, oak, ash, walnut and zebrano.
How are your sofas made?
All Kress sofas are bench made using selected hardwoods. We heavily brace all stress joints with corner blocks.
For seating comfort we use exceptionally durable Super-Loop (no sag) spring construction, which compares very favorably with classic hand-tied coils. Super-Loop's rigid quality control program ensures the long life of the springs. Seats made with the springs and subjected to simulated life tests on a severe drop machine have shown no signs of deterioration after years of very hard wear. Our sofa frames are guaranteed for life.
Engineered for durability and comfort, our standard seat cushion filling features a core of high-density, soft-compressed polyurethane foam wrapped in soft 100% polyester fibers. Back pillows are bagged Dacron.
Our upholstered lines have seat cushions of spring and down or foam and down, with down-and-feather back pillows.
What is your product warranty?
For more than 70 years we at Kreiss have prided ourselves on supporting our products and our customers in every possible way. Our warranties are designed to do that as effectively as possible.
Where do you manufacture your furniture?
We manufacture both domestically and worldwide, and source unique materials and components based on the individual product.
Why do you charge for shipping?
Unlike many furniture companies, we do not build the cost of freight into the cost of our goods. A third party handles all our shipping and our customers have the option of using their own carrier. Kreiss does not profit from shipping charges.
Why are your prices not online?
Kreiss products are sold internationally and certain markets require tariffs and extra charges. To inquire about pricing, please contact your local showroom.
Why don’t we treat our fabric?
Fabric treatments may alter a fabric's color and feel. We don't treat our fabrics because we cannot guarantee that they will be the same post-treatment. Many of our clients, however, opt to treat their fabrics after purchasing.
What is your delivery time?
Our delivery times vary depending on your order. We do everything in our power to finish orders as soon as possible. Unless products are in stock, our typical lead time is 6 - 8 weeks. Some custom goods require a lead time of 12 to 16 weeks.
Do you offer interior design services?
Yes, we offer complete interior design services. Please see the interior design portion of our website or contact concierge@kreisshq.com for more information.

What makes Kreiss furniture different from other furniture companies?
Now in its fourth generation, Kreiss is a privately owned and operated family business. All of our products are handmade under the direct supervision of a family member. We are the purveyors of the "California Look," an internationally recognized style that we originated and are best qualified to reproduce. We also offer award-winning interior design services. We are accessible to the public through our open social media pages; members of the Kreiss family are on call to clients if necessary.
Can I provide my own fabric?
Yes, we allow this option — often referred to as C.O.M. (Customer's Own Materials)—for all of our upholstered pieces.
Can I view your entire collection online?
You can see the majority of our collection online, but it's impossible to view the entire collection because we offer almost unlimited customization. We often share prototypes and special custom designs on our
Facebook page. Please contact
sales@kreiss.com if you have a specific question or request.
How do I care for my purchase?
Each Kreiss item has a specific cleaning code:
S – Dry clean only
W – Lukewarm water, mild soap suds
SW – Wash or dry clean (Dry cleaning is preferable for color maintenance.)
KRS – Machine wash in lukewarm water, never hot. Use a gentle cycle setting and a mild detergent. Avoid harsh detergents and chlorine bleach. Wash dark colors separately.
Dry – Tumble dry on low setting only, or line dry. To minimize creasing, do not let sit in the dryer. When possible, remove from dryer before the cycle ends.
Is Kreiss furniture still in business?
Yes, of course! :) After the deaths of Norman and Michael Kreiss in 2011 and 2012, the company briefly ceased operations but in 2014, Loren Kreiss acquired and relaunched the brand in Los Angeles, California. He opened the company's current flagship showroom in West Hollywood, California in 2016.
Yacht cloth and Polo fabrics (Solids, Textures and Stripes)
Yacht cloth and polo fabrics feature a soil-and-stain resistant finish that makes clean up a breeze.
Spot wash by sponging briskly with a solution of natural soap in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap and air dry.
For stubborn stains or suntan lotion, use a fabric spot remover. Follow the directions on the container. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap and air dry.
Solution-dyed acrylic does not promote mildew growth. However, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances.
Leather care
Protect against excessive:
Sunlight – This will fade and help dry out the leather.
Dryness – This will cause the leather to crack.
Heat – This will dry out the leather.
General Care
Vacuum routinely.
Keep moist. Humidify if the climate is dry.
Do not use chemicals, saddle soap, cleaning solvents, furniture polish, oils, varnish, abrasive cleaners, soaps or ammonia water.
Note:
Always test the cleaning method in a hidden area first to convince yourself of the results.
These are recommended or suggested methods of cleaning, but the manufacturer is not responsible for any damage incurred while cleaning.
Novasuede
Liquid spills tend to "bead up" on the fabric surface. Quick action with a dry cloth is often all that is needed. Prevent soil build-up and keep the suede service looking crisp and new.
To lift off light stains and smudge marks, use Scotch tape or a soft eraser.
To remove water-soluble stains such as coffee, tea, juice, milk, wine, etc., dab the affected area with clean water, mild soapy water, or a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar. A blotting action is preferred. Eliminate excess soap or vinegar solution by dabbing again. "Rings" that appear after drying are usually the result of some residual soap or cleaning solution remaining in the fabric. Most disappear when cleaned again with water only.
For non-water-soluble stains such as oil, grease, shoe polish, etc., use a petroleum solvent such as naphtha (lighter fluid), mineral spirits, a powder spray such as K2R, or a spot remover containing perchloroethylene or other chlorinated solvent. Using a clean cloth moistened with the solvent, dab the stained area and then blot with a clean, dry cloth. Repeat if necessary. Careful rubbing with fine sandpaper will usually repair minor cigarette burns and any areas with surface damage.
Shellstone Cleaning Instructions
Shellstone is a very delicate marble. Never get it wet. If it does get wet, let it dry naturally.
Do not try to clean shellstone with any sort of chemical. We recommend gently rubbing very fine sandpaper or steal wool on the affected area.
Wood Care and Cleaning Instructions
To achieve our superior look and finish, we sand and stain most of our wood furniture by hand, then seal it with a lacquer sealer and, finally, hand-rub it with natural wax.
Always remember that wood fibers are soft and crush or compress easily when heavy objects are placed on them or hit them firmly from above. To preserve the finish on your Kreiss furniture, we always recommend that you:
- Do not place it in direct sunlight
- Do not put it next to a heating unit
- Do not place it next to a humidifier or in a very humid area
- Do not use it in areas where it is wet, flooded, or rainy
- Do not install it in areas where temperatures drastically change.
If water, wine, or soda spills on the wood, simply wipe it off immediately with a water-dampened cloth, followed by a dry cloth. Make sure the spill does not get underneath the base or legs of the piece. Use this method to clean the wood on a regular basis.
On some wood products, lemon or orange oil works well for cleaning and polishing.
Cast Stone
Cast stone pieces are made with glass fiber-reinforced concrete known as GFRC, a sprayed mixture of concrete and fiberglass.
The best way to clean scuff marks or fingerprints is to sand the piece lightly with 400 grit sandpaper. The color goes all the way through the material, so there is no danger of sanding too hard and removing the color. You may also use cold water with any kind of soap or cleaner. Water should dry and not leave any ring.
Powder-Coated Outdoor Furniture
The finish is truly a powder with the color added. Kreiss powder coat finishes are made with polyester (among other materials) to enhance their resistance to ultra violet light, as most of our pieces sit directly in the sun.
These finishes are very easy to clean with most liquid cleaners or sprays applied with a sponge or soft cloth. Although our powder-coat finishes will not chip or scratch, it is best to avoid abrasive cleaners to protect the gloss.
